Bannermen Handed 6-1 Loss by Excelsiors
New York starter Candy Lemmons put the Baltimore offense in a vise grip. The right-hander relied heavily on his curveball in leading the Excelsiors to a 6-1 win. In 9 innings, Lemmons surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 0 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. With the win, the Excelsiors improved to 18-33.

The Excelsiors benefited from a costly error in the bottom of the third. With Jonathan Coddington at bat and New York leading 1-0, the Baltimore miscue allowed New York to plate 1 and take the lead, 2-0.

"I thought Candy threw the ball well across the board," said New York manager .
