| Read Shines in 10-7 Toronto Win | The Toronto Provincials defeated the New York Excelsiors, 10-7, in part because of catcher Standpipe Read. Read went 3 for 3 with a triple, 2 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Provincials. Henry Clancy was the winner. He's now 6-4. The loser was 28-year old left-handed pitcher Bill Nolette. With this game in the books, Toronto is 16-16, New York 14-11.
With two out in the top of the eighth, George Ward had a game-changing hit. The Provincials third baseman slammed a 2-run single off Eddie Montague, making the score 10-7, Toronto.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Toronto manager .
