| McDonald Sizzles, Pittsburgh Fizzles | Bill McDonald was throwing strikes early and getting ahead in the count, his manager said after the Indianapolis Westerners hurler tossed a 4-hit, complete game shutout against the Pittsburgh Vulcans.
"I went right after each hitter, trying to get ahead in the count," said McDonald. "I wanted them to swing the bats and keep my pitch count down. It worked. I felt strong the whole game, even in the last two innings."
McDonald walked 3 and struck out 2 in the 1-0 victory.
This year, McDonald has compiled a 12-14 mark with a 3.29 ERA in 27 starts. | | |  | |
