| Vulcans Slip Past New York, 4-3 | The Pittsburgh Vulcans picked up a win at Excelsior Grounds, taking down the New York Excelsiors, 4-3. Starting pitcher Dennis Catchings was a big reason why. Catchings, who is on pace to win 39 games this season, went the distance for Pittsburgh. He gave up 3 runs on 11 hits. With this game in the books, Pittsburgh is 38-29, New York 42-25.
Bernard Adams came through with a big-time hit for Pittsburgh. The center fielder smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 4-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
