The Pittsburgh Vulcans knocked off the Montreal Tigers, 4-3, in International Association action at Vulcan Grounds. Pittsburgh pitcher and Barksdale, Wisconsin, native Dennis Catchings had an outstanding performance. Catchings, now 32-19, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing 3 runs. The win puts the Vulcans at 47-33, while the Tigers drop to 39-41.

The game reached a climactic end in the bottom of the ninth. With Pittsburgh trailing 3-2, John Babbitt delivered the decisive blow, stroking a fastball from Beau McHugh for a 2-run double. Ballgame.
