5 Hits for Beavers Yates
Monday, October 13th , 1884
Quebec second baseman Ben Yates had a fantastic day at the plate at Cartier Grounds, knocking out 5 hits and pacing his club to a win, 8-7.

"It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Yates said after his 5-for-7 performance against the Stars. "No offense meant to Indianapolis, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid park, it was Cartier Grounds."

After the game, his manager elaborated on the second baseman's improvements, saying Yates spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball.

"That's what I'm trying to do," Yates said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."

Ben Yates singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, flied out in the 7th, singled in the 9th, singled in the 12th and struck out in the 13th.

Thus far this season in 107 games, Yates is batting .224 with 4 home runs, 32 RBIs and 63 runs scored. He has 99 hits in 442 at-bats.
