Claiborne led his club to victory, 22-3, over the Detroit Woodwards at Woodward Grounds, smoking Detroit pitching for 6 hits in 7 at-bats. The 28-year-old third baseman later called the victory "sweet." Dave Claiborne singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th, doubled in the 7th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and grounded out in the 9th.
