| Philadelphia's Manke Goes Ballistic with 5 Hits Saturday, October 2nd , 1886 There aren't many who could be pro ballplayers and there are even fewer who could put up 5 hits in a day.
Pat Manke is one of those rare few, as he went 5-for-5 against the St. Louis Pioneers at Girard Grounds. The monster effort from the 36-year-old center fielder helped the Philadelphia Unions get the win, 12-4.
"We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it," said Pioneers manager . "That's the game, though. Don't make mistakes and you'll win ballgames. Make mistakes and, well, you saw what happened today."
Pat Manke hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Dan Hicks in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
This season, Manke has hit 4 home runs and posted a .305 batting average.
