 | Philadelphia's Manke Goes Ballistic with 5 Hits Saturday, October 2nd , 1886 There aren't many who could be pro ballplayers and there are even fewer who could put up 5 hits in a day. Pat Manke is one of those rare few, as he went 5-for-5 against the St. Louis Pioneers at Girard Grounds. The monster effort from the 36-year-old center fielder helped the Philadelphia Unions get the win, 12-4. "We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it," said Pioneers manager . "That's the game, though. Don't make mistakes and you'll win ballgames. Make mistakes and, well, you saw what happened today." Pat Manke hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Dan Hicks in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
