| Hereford Spins Masterpiece, No-Hits Washington Wednesday, October 13th , 1886 The Louisville Colts relied on no-hit stuff from starter Kip Hereford to defeat the Washington Federals, 6-2, at Capitol Park.
"It's quite a thrill," Hereford told the media afterward. "This is a top-notch league. A no-hitter against any team in the league is something special. I can't believe I did it."
To get his name logged in the Federal League records, he stopped Washington cold and hitless, surrendering 1 walk and fanning 7 of the 33 batters he faced.
Louisville manager was in a jovial mode after the game, kidding with reporters that Hereford "made managing easy today."
"I didn't have hardly any decisions to make like I usually do," he said. "I didn't even have to come up with a pinch hitter."
This year, Hereford has compiled a 35-20 record with a 2.81 ERA.
