Sturgeons Win in Glorious Fashion, 5-4
Detroit Sturgeons starter Palmer Cherry took the mound against the Louisville Colts at Riverside Park; and, when all was said and done, the left-hander led his team to an extra-inning, 5-4 win. Martin Bird, now 20-14, was credited with the win in 3 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 1 and walking 3. The 'W' lifts Detroit's record to 72-52.

Up to bat in the bottom of the 14th, 29-year old shortstop Eli Money had a chance to be the hero. Louisville pitcher Ed Lane wanted to foil that plan. But with no outs, Money drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Sturgeons had themselves a thrilling win.

"You win some, you lose some. I don't get too caught up in all that," said Cherry.
