| Sturgeons Bird Earns 150th Win Thursday, August 18th , 1887 Martin Bird of the Detroit Sturgeons will go down as one of the league's legendary pitchers after his 4-2 win today against the New York Barons.
"It felt like it was a postseason game, one out at a time," said his manager. "It was something special to see."
The 26-year-old Bird picked up his 150th career victory at Riverside Park. He hurled 9 innings, gave up 7 hits and registered 6 strikeouts along with 1 walk.
"I've worked a long time for this," Bird said. "I can't believe it's really here. It feels great!"
Bird has a lifetime record of 150 wins and 108 losses and a 3.00 ERA.
