| Cherry Breezes to Shutout Victory Monday, September 17th , 1888 Palmer Cherry of the Detroit Sturgeons was in command from start to finish in his 3-0 shutout win over the Washington Federals. The left-hander, who finished 3rd in the FL in saves with 2 in 1886, struck out 6, walked 1 and allowed 9 hits.
"I felt strong the entire game," Cherry said. "I felt like I had my good stuff. It was just one of those games when everything was working."
This year, Cherry has registered 20 wins and 15 losses in 36 starts with a 2.19 ERA while registering 154 strikeouts and 85 walks in 308.2 innings.
