 | Foshee Whips Birmingham, 1-0 Tuesday, September 6th , 1887 Hills Foshee of the Nashville Hickories was on fire against the Birmingham Vulcans at Cumberland Grounds. He shut them out, 1-0, on 8 hits, collecting 11 strikeouts and allowing 3 walks. "The first two pitches I'm looking for an out, a ground ball or a fly ball," Foshee said later. "I'm trying to get quick outs. I've never been a big believer in trying to strike a guy out from the very first pitch. It's too easy to end up behind in the count doing that." This year, Foshee has worked 364.2 innings with 283 strikeouts en route to a 23-17 record and a 2.49 ERA. |   |
