| Duffee Dominates Rebels Friday, September 30th , 1887 The Atlanta Firebirds shut out the Richmond Rebels, 1-0, behind the strong pitching of Jim Duffee. Duffee surrendered only 3 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 9.
Following the last out, Duffee appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Richmond manager , who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken right-hander as the clubs left the field. Duffee's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.
The Rebels skipper would not comment on the exchange but, at the Firebirds press conference, Duffee confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.
"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Duffee said.
"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Atlanta manager added.
So far this year, Duffee has made 47 starts, tossed 430 innings, struck out 394 batters and walked 84. His record is 32-12 with a 2.26 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .231 batting average. | | |
