Birmingham Snaps Nolan Streak at 20
Thursday, August 20th , 1896
The Memphis Bruins lost to the Birmingham Smokers by the score of 15-1 at Slag Park, but the bigger story was the end of a hit streak.

Memphis second baseman Fred Nolan had been working on a 20-game hitting streak, but went 0-for-4 against the Smokers to bring the hot stretch to an end.

"I couldn't do my job and we lost the game," he said in postgame remarks. "It just goes to show how important I am to this team, and how critical it is that I play to the best of my abilities."

To date this year, Nolan is batting .353 with 3 home runs.
