| Hit Streak Over, Senators Stop Vail Wednesday, August 26th , 1896 Birmingham Smokers shortstop James Vail finally met his Waterloo.
A 22-game hitting spree is now history after Vail was unable to make anything happen in 4 at-bats today against the Jackson Senators. Fortunately for Vail and the Smokers, the rest of his team had enough in their bats to win the game, 5-3.
"We're a true team here," he said. "For 22 games I've been able to contribute, but I always believed these guys would take care of things if I couldn't some day."
At the moment, Vail is batting .304 with 1 home run and 64 RBIs. He has played in 92 games and scored 93 times. | | |
