| SBC Awards Best Batter Prize to Guthrie Monday, September 14th , 1896 Montgomery fans have something to crow about today as Montgomery shortstop Fred Guthrie nabbed the Southern Baseball Circuit Player of the Week Award for his performance over the last seven days.
"I know there are times when it's hard to lay off pitches. Everyone goes through stretches when he's too eager to put the ball in play. You know, though, I feel like this past week I was able to get in the right frame of mind and just let things come naturally," said Guthrie.
He posted a .516 average (16-for-31) this past week with 2 home runs, 9 RBIs, and 9 runs scored.
This year, Guthrie has batted at a .380 pace with 175 hits, 6 home runs, 100 RBIs and scored 92 times. | | |
