 | Hit Streak Over, Drovers Stop Jones Thursday, August 20th , 1896 It was the best of both worlds for the Fort Worth Drovers at Bayou Field, as they defeated the Houston Eagles, 16-9, and also snapped Fred Jones's 22-game hitting streak. The 29-year-old Houston starting pitcher failed to get a hit in 4 at-bats. "Nothing personal against Jones, we just wanted to win the game," said Drovers skipper . "We did a great job keeping him off-balance and guessing." When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Jones frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about it, but I'd feel much better if we had won." In 14 starts this season, Jones has recorded a 7-6 record and a 3.90 ERA. |   |
