The Detroit Sturgeons earned a close win over the Pittsburgh Vulcans, thanks in part to Bill Poole. The Detroit right-hander, who finished 4th in the FL in innings pitched with 442.0 in 1885, played a key role in the 14-inning, 3-2 victory. In 14 innings, Poole surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. The Sturgeons now have a mark of 61-34.

The Sturgeons got a clutch hit from first baseman Napoleon Crane. In the bottom of the 14th, he hit a run-scoring single to left-center, to win the game for the Sturgeons.
