The Pittsburgh Vulcans trumped the Philadelphia Unions, 9-5, at Girard Grounds II. Pittsburgh right fielder Joe August was terrific. He went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk. George Ashe picked up the win, improving his season record to 22-20. He struck out 2 in 9 innings. The Vulcans raised their record to 65-62.

In the top of the second, Pittsburgh first baseman Jerry Clay had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and two out, Clay stroked a 2-run single to right. It made the score 5-1, Pittsburgh. For the game, he was 2 for 5 with 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
