Unions first baseman John Casey left his imprint on his team's 11-7 win over the Louisville Colts. Casey was 3 for 5 with a triple and 2 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 2 for Philadelphia in the contest. Jack Malley, the winning pitcher, improved to 26-15. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 6 hits and 6 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 2. Rick Robertson, credited with the save, is now 1 for 1 in save opportunities.

The Colts had been locked in a 6-6 tie with the Unions going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 34-year old right fielder Leo Showalter came to the plate. Showalter hit a bases-clearing triple on a 2-0 fastball from Louisville hurler Ed Lane. It was Showalter's 6th triple of the year.

"We knocked the fire out of the ball," said Philadelphia manager . "The guys swung the bats pretty good, and that's fun to see."

The Unions, at 71-54, sit in third place in the Federal League.
