| Smith Blisters Baltimore | Excelsiors third baseman Clipper Smith had his way with Baltimore pitching at Banner Field and mauled them for 5 hits in 5 at-bats. His efforts were all in vain, though, as the Bannermen ruined his great day by toppling the Excelsiors, 5-3.
"I had a great day, but you've got to give Baltimore credit, they did what they had to do to win," he told reporters after the game. "They weren't very impressed with my 5 hits."
"Oh, we noticed what Smith did today," Bannermen skipper said. "He had quite a game. I can tell you this, we will pitch him a little differently the next time we face him."
Clipper Smith doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
Smith is swinging at a .278 pace on the year with 1 home run, 63 RBIs and 49 runs scored. He has played in 105 games. | | | | |
