Blue Caps Take Down Unions, 7-6
The Cleveland Blue Caps faced a tough opponent in Philadelphia pitcher Bancroft King, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Lakeside Grounds by a final score of 7-6. King went 8.2 innings and allowed 7 runs. Cleveland has an impressive 66-32 record.

A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 2nd and one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. That's when second baseman Marty Stephenson, who finished 5th in the FL in wins above replacement with 3.7 in 1879, hit a run-scoring double. The Blue Caps went on to win.

"There's a lot of passion in our clubhouse," said Stephenson. "When we put it together we're a great ball club."
