Monarchs Rally Late to Clip New York
Fans watched the Cincinnati Monarchs and the New York Excelsiors fight to the finish.

The Cincinnati Monarchs beat the New York Excelsiors, 5-4. Cincinnati pitcher and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, native Ashton Slake led the way. The loss puts New York at 5-12.

Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 29-year old third baseman Will Bowling had a real shot to win the game. New York pitcher Candy Lemmons was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, Bowling hit a run-scoring single. The Monarchs had a walk-off triumph.

"The crowd was boisterous today," said Bowling.
