| Vulcans Paste 6-1 Loss on Barons | Conditions were not ideal but Pittsburgh and New York were able to put their game in the books.
Pittsburgh got a strong outing from Stanley Lamb as the Vulcans defeated the New York Barons, 6-1, at Columbia Field. The winning pitcher was Lamb, now 1-1. He tossed 5 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 4.
Jim Frank had a big run-scoring triple for the Vulcans in the top of the first inning. With Pittsburgh leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a changeup from 19-year old left-handed pitcher Tom Samples and swatted a triple to center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Vulcans ahead, 2-0.
"Nice to get this one," said Frank. "We've been scuffling."
The loss lowers the New York record to 4-2. | | | | |
