Federals Absorb 8-1 Loss at Girard Grounds II
The Philadelphia Unions rode a solid performance from 29-year-old starting pitcher Thomas Goss to a win, beating the Washington Federals, 8-1, at Girard Grounds II. In 9 innings, Goss surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Philadelphia is now 16-27, while Washington is 17-27.

Mike Loughlin had a big 2-run double for the Unions in the bottom of the third inning. With Philadelphia trailing 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a curveball from Norm Schmitt, who finished 3rd in the FL in saves with 1 in 1883, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Unions ahead, 2-1.
