The Detroit Sturgeons defeated the Philadelphia Unions, 5-4, at Riverside Park. Tom Moore, who is on pace for 50 RBI this season, was a standout performer for Detroit. Bill Poole earned the win, while 28-year old right-handed pitcher Bancroft King took the loss for Philadelphia. The Sturgeons lead the Federal League by 4 games.

The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, Moore hit a fastball from Bancroft King for a run-scoring single. The Sturgeons, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
