| On Road, Indianapolis Beats Louisville, 8-6 | The Indianapolis Westerners spoiled a good performance by Louisville left fielder Hick Rogers, bumping off Louisville, 8-6, at Derby Grounds. Rogers went 4 for 4 with 4 singles and a walk. Doug Crockett picked up the win, improving his season record to 6-15. He struck out 1 in 9 innings. The last-place Westerners sport a record of 20-35.
Had Stan Violette not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Violette hit a 2-run single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Westerners.
Westerners manager wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse." | | | | |
