| Vulcans Edge Past Westerners, 5-4 | The Indianapolis Westerners got a superb performance from pitcher Wilton Strickland, but the Pittsburgh Vulcans still won the game, 5-4. Strickland threw 9.0 innings of 6-hit ball. Ed Wales, the winning pitcher, is now 8-8. He went 9 innings, allowing 4 runs on 10 hits, while fanning 3 and walking 4. With the victory, the Vulcans record stands at 39-36.
The game was at a stalemate until pitcher Ed Wales came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Indianapolis pitcher Wilton Strickland, he hit a 2-2 changeup for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Pittsburgh on top, 5-4.
