| Goss Terrific in 10-4 Philadelphia Triumph | The home crowd had a good time watching the Washington Federals and Philadelphia Unions get after it.
The Philadelphia Unions topped the Washington Federals, 10-4, in Federal League action at Girard Grounds II. The standout performance belonged to Philadelphia pitcher and Portland, Maine, native Thomas Goss. The Federals, 4-6, continue their sluggish start to the 1888 campaign.
Philadelphia starter Thomas Goss was a master of his craft. The right-hander allowed 4 runs on 4 hits over 9 innings.
Goss pitched well, despite being a bit under the weather. "To be honest, I was sick before the game," he said. "Just a stomach bug."
