The Philadelphia Unions picked up a win at Girard Grounds II, knocking off the Washington Federals, 8-2. Starting pitcher Jack Malley played a key role in the triumph. Philadelphia, at 55-44, holds down third place in the Federal League.

Malley, a native of North Bend, Oregon, was dealing all game. He kept Washington hitters off-balance, while giving the Unions 9 quality innings. Malley threw 104 pitches, allowing 4 hits and striking out 4.
