Toronto Provincials starter Fred Brody was dealing. He helped his team knock off the Cleveland Clippers, 6-1. Brody got the win, improving to 19-15. He gave up 11 hits and walked 1 over 9 innings. He allowed 1 run. Toronto currently is in third place in the International Association at 51-37.

Henry Clancy had a big 3-run home run for the Provincials in the bottom of the third inning. With Toronto leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he sized up a screwball from Dan Hicks, who led the FL in ERA with 2.01 in 1884, and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Provincials on top, 4-0.
