Close Win Moves Unions to 56-45
The Philadelphia Unions picked up a win at Columbia Field, knocking off the New York Barons, 3-2. Starting pitcher Jack Malley was a big reason why. The Unions, at 56-45, sit in third place in the Federal League.

Philadelphia took a 3-2 lead on Jeff Scruggs's 18th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Scruggs hit in the top of the seventh, left New York pitcher Ted Carson visibly frustrated.

"Fun game," said Scruggs, "even when the outcome was in doubt."
