| Bird Torches Creams for 5 Hits Saturday, September 1st , 1883 Today at Columbia Field, the New York Columbians fell to the Milwaukee Creams despite a splendid performance by starting pitcher Martin Bird.
Bird had an exceptional day at the plate, tagging Creams pitching for 5 base hits, but it was not enough for New York to come away with the win. Milwaukee whipped New York by a score of 12-11.
Martin Bird hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, hit an RBI double in the 8th and grounded out in the 10th.
To date this season, Bird sports a 17-12 mark with a 2.39 ERA in 29 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .247 batting average and has 130 strikeouts in 255.2 innings.
