No-Hitter for Crockett
Tuesday, August 24th , 1880
Doug Crockett really did a number on the Boston Resolutes at Garrison Grounds -- and that number was zero.

The Chicago Base Ball Club hurler had what he later called "one of the best moments of my life," tossing a no-hitter and leading the Base Ball Club to victory, 5-0.

"This is something special," Crockett said. "I knew from the fifth inning that I had a no-hitter working. I tried to get it out of my mind, but you just can't. They have too many scoreboards in the park. They're everywhere you look."

The right-hander faced only 34 batters in the no-hit gem, struck out 2 and walked 4.

"We simply couldn't get any wood on the ball," Boston manager said when asked about the epic performance. "Crockett was brilliant out there. He certainly had our number."

Thus far this season, Crockett has posted a 26-12 record, started 38 games, struck out 173 batters in 339.2 innings and compiled a 1.99 ERA.
