| Runkle Gives Buffalo Goose Eggs | The Cleveland Bears shut out the Buffalo Bulls, 5-0, behind the strong pitching of Ezra Runkle. Runkle surrendered only 8 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 0.
Following the last out, Runkle appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Buffalo manager , who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken right-hander as the clubs left the field. Runkle's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.
The Bulls skipper would not comment on the exchange but, at the Bears press conference, Runkle confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.
"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Runkle said.
"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Cleveland manager added.
This season, Runkle has rung up 21 wins and 4 losses in 30 games. He has an ERA of 2.99 and has fanned 43 batters in 220 innings. | |
