Sturgeons Need Extra Innings to Top Vulcans, 11-5
Detroit center fielder Joe Cavender had a 3-RBI game, which helped his team beat the Pittsburgh Vulcans, 11-5. Martin Bird, who went 11 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 5 runs on 12 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 3-0. The Sturgeons, now 4-2, have been playing some good baseball.

Martin Bird threw 11.0 innings allowing 5 runs for Detroit. The 26-year old right-handed pitcher had a key at-bat in the top of the 11th. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring walk off Ed Wales. It was his 2nd walk of the season.
