His goal at twenty was to win twenty games one year, pitch until he was thirty, win the league pennant and to make some money. Well, Bancroft King did something even better -- the 28-year-old Philadelphia Unions star has now won 100 games in his career. That put him in a very select group of pitchers.

He joined that exclusive club today at Girard Grounds II by whipping the Washington Federals 7-6, holding them to 11 hits in 9 innings while chalking up 4 strikeouts and 2 walks.

In the postgame interview, the modest King said, "It's special to win 100 games. You don't do it by yourself. You do it with good stuff and a good bullpen. You are only as good as the guys behind you. Years from now I might look back on it and give myself a little pat on the back."

A look at his career stats shows King has a record of 100 wins and 108 losses and a 3.41 ERA.
