| Pittsburgh Beaten, 10-6, by Philadelphia | The Philadelphia Unions beat the Pittsburgh Vulcans, 10-6. Philadelphia second baseman and Elmira, New York, native Jeff Scruggs led the way. Bancroft King picked up the win, improving his season record to 3-3. He struck out 8 in 9 innings. Early on, the Unions, at 10-4, have played an impressive brand of baseball.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Johnson Allen came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Pittsburgh pitcher Ed Wales, he hit a first pitch fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Philadelphia on top, 7-5.
"We've got a great group of guys," Scruggs said, "and we're having fun right now."
